Candida Treatment Comparisons

Product Ranked By Respondents That Caused Significant Improvement That Was Long Lasting (Table A3)Comparison of Nine Products Commonly Used for Candida Treatment

Overview of Product Effectiveness

In order to provide a general overview of each products effectiveness Table A2 was created as a way of combining the separate pieces reported in the subsequent pages.

This scale was created by formulating a ratio of positive to negative responses for each product. If the product was seen as providing “significant and lasting improvement” and if the user “discontinued its use because I am well”, the response was viewed as positive. Negative responses were: “improved at first but did not last,” “no change in symptoms” and “discontinued because of side effects.”

A score of 1 indicates an equal ratio of positive to negative responses.
A score greater than one indicates a positive ratio.
A score less than one indicatesa negative ratio.
According to the respondents, the four most effective products were Caproyl, Acidophilus, Bentonite Magma, and Psyllium. These four products had positive effects that outweighed their negative effects. The products that came out least effective according to this scale are Candida Extract, Garlic, Nyzoral, Nystatin, Monistat and Diflucan, with Candida Extract being the least effective.

Product Ranked By Respondents That Caused Significant Improvement That Was Long Lasting (Table A3)

Product Number of Users Overall Effectiveness
Bentonite 43 42
Psyllium 45 40

Diflucan 10 20
Nystatin 27 15
Nyzoral 13 15
Monistat 14 14
Garlic 27 11
Candida Extract 10 10

The three products that brought about the most significant improvement that was long lasting were Bentonite (42%), Psyllium (40%) and Caproyl (40%). Nystatin and Nyzoral were rated effective with long-lasting effect by only 15% and Candida Extract was least effective (10%) compared to the rest of the other nine products listed.

Product Ranking Perceived To Bring Improvement, But Symptoms Came Back After Some Time.(Table A4)

Product Number of Users % Indicating Improvement with Recurrence
Monistat 14 42
Nystatin 27 41
Diflucan 10 30
Psyllium 45 29
Caproyl 42 26
Bentonite 43 23
Nyzoral 13 23
Candida Extract 10 20
Acidophilus 45 11
Garlic 27 11

Monistat (42%), Nystatin (41%) and Diflucan (30%) were ranked the highest out of ten products as ones that gave only short-term improvement, and where symptoms recurred after sometime. This question of temporary improvement in some ways could reflect the fact that regardless of the product used there is some degree of recurrence. There are other variables other than product effectiveness that could cause a recurrence of symptoms, such as poor diet, stress and lack of adequate rest. The question was intended to identify the products that caused a recurrence even while they stayed with the recommended diet and were not suffering undue stress. It is not clear, however, whether respondents understood this and therefore the results of this particular question could reflect either situation.

Ranking Of Products Perceived As Causing No Change in Symptoms.(Table A5)

Product Number of Users % Indicating No Change in Symptoms
Nyzoral 13 30
Candida Extract 10 20
Diflucan 10 20
Nystatin 27 19
Garlic 27 15
Monistat 14 7
Bentonite 43 5
Acidophilus 45 2
Psyllium 45 2
Caproyl 42 0

Candida Extract (40%), Garlic (37%), and Nyzoral (30%) were three products that were tried by our respondents but ranked highest as ones that did not bring any change in symptoms. Bentonite, Psyllium and Caproyl (5-7%) ranked lowest, especially when viewed in light of the following Table (II, A6). Most of the time that these products were taken, they were effective in reversing symptoms.

Ranking Of Products Respondents Indicated They Discontinued Because of Side Effects (Table A6)

Product Number of Users % Indicating Discontinuance  Due to Side Effects
Nyxoral 13 30
Candida Extract 10 20
Diflucan 10 20
Nystatin 27 19
Garlic 27 15
Monistat 14 7
Bentonite 43 5
Acidophilus 45 2
Psyllium 45 2
Caproyl 42 0

Among the products used by respondents, Nyzoral, Candida Extract, Diflucan and Nystatin (20-30%) were discontinued most often because of side effects. Caproyl, Psyllium, Bentonite and Acidophilus and Monistat (0-7%) were discontinued least often due to undesirable side effects.

Ranking Of Products By Users That Have Discontinued Products Because They Are Well (Table A7)

Product Number of Users % Discontinued Because They are Well
Caproyl 42 24
Bentonite   43 23
Psyllium 45 22
Acidophilus 45 18
Nyzoral 13 8
Garlic 27 7
Monistat 14 7
Nystatin 27 7
Candida Extract 10 0
Diflucan 10 0

The best products, i.e., ones that respondents took until they were well enough to discontinue their use were Caproyl, Bentonite, Psyllium and Acidophilus. Nearly a fourth of all respondents who have used one or a combination of these products could claim that at some point they achieved full recovery. Of the people in our study who used Diflucan and Candida Extract, none could claim they got well enough to discontinue their usage. Of the 27 people who used Nystatin, only 7% could claim they were well.

It is to be noted that this survey was sent only to individuals who have recovered, and therefore these findings are significant to the extent they reflect which products were most effective in bringing about a long-lasting recovery.

When Improvement Was Perceived

The following table lists products that were rated as most effective in controlling Candida Albicans systemic Overgrowth (CASO), the length of time it took for improvement to be perceived and total length of time it took for symptoms to clear completely.

Table A8 data is given only where three or more respondents provided information. Ranking Of Products Based On Length Of Time It Took For Improvement To Be Perceived And Total Length of Time Until Symptoms Stabilized (Table A8)

Product Number of Users Length of Time for Improvement to be Perceived (in Months) Total Length of Time Until Stabilized
Psyllium (19) 2.13 11.11
Bentonite (19) 2.22 14.19
Acidophilus (17) 2.79 16.11
Caproyl (18) 2.84 11.62
Nyzoral (14) 3.3 13.3
Nystatin (11) 7.95 23.46
Garlic (3) 10.3 14.00

Psyllium and Bentonite were rated as providing the earliest signs of positive changes in symptoms. These indications came in slightly over two months on average. Caproyl, Acidophilus and Nyzoral showed improvement within approximately three months. Improvement with Nystatin and Garlic took from eight to ten months in general.

Thirty-five percent of those respondents who had taken either Psyllium, Bentonite, Acidophilus or Caproyl claimed they felt relief within a week. While Caproyl was viewed as taking slightly longer to take effect, both Psyllium and Caproyl were the only Products where symptoms stabilized within one year. Nyzoral was seen as stabilizing symptoms earlier, on average at the 13th month, with Bentonite (Magma), Garlic, and Acidophilus following closely for 14 to 16 months.

Nystatin was seen as bringing stabilization only after approximately two years.

As to all the above listed products, it took a range of one month to three years for symptoms to stabilize to the point they could discontinue usage. Approximately one fourth of them could claim they were stable within one to three months after using these products.

People recovering from CASO experience periods of remission and exacerbation. During periods of exacerbation when symptoms recur, they resume the use of anti fungal agents and colon cleansers. Table A9 reflects our respondents choice for preventive maintenance as well as to control recurrences.
